WHY I AM
Volunteering to run for Congress...
I have no other object in view
but to be serviceable
to my fellow citizens,
and I am too firmly fixed
in my determination
to pursue this course,
which I consider
was pointed out as my duty,
by the experience and many hard trials
I had suffered,
to be deterred by foolish remarks
of the envious
or malicious opponents
of either label.
